Main Characters: Harry, Hermoine, Ron, Dumbledore, Prof. McGonagall, Hagrid, Prof. Snape, Filtch, Seamus, Neville, Malfoy, and almost everyone else from the first (the only person we saw with any amount of time in SS that we don’t see here is Quirrell).
NEW CHARACTERS: Gilderoy Lockhart – new DADA professor, with a knack for performing memory charms. He has a BIG ego and is all talk. His memory charm backfires on him at the end and he is off to St. Mungo’s as a result.
Tom Marvolo Riddle – 16 yr old Voldemort, before he was known far and wide as Voldemort. He is the “brain” behind the diary and the reason the basilisk it roaming and the reason the Chamber of Secrets is open – as he is the last remaining descendant of Salazar Slytherin. He believes he is the only one to have figured out all of Hogwarts secrets. He’s arrogant and smart and dangerous. He uses Ginny to open the Chamber. The diary is slipped to her by Lucius Malfoy, Draco’s dad.
Dobby the House Elf – The Malfoy’s servant. He tries to save Harry. He is set free in the end when Harry tricks Lucius into giving Dobby a sock.
Aragog – An acromantula that Hagrid raised. He lives in the forest and has a family. Hagrid and Aragog were framed by Tom Riddle, that’s why Hagrid was expelled.
Main Premise: In Harry’s second year, students are being petrified because a monster from the Chamber of Secrets is out. Many think Harry is the heir of Slytherin who opened the Chamber, but it wasn’t. It was Tom Riddle, working through his diary to possess Ginny to do so. Harry, Ron and Hermoine set out to solve the mystery of the Chamber.
Other Important Things to Remember for Later: Harry destroyed the diary when he stabbed it with the basilisk fang. Harry killed the basilisk fan with the sword of Gryffindor, which he pulled from the sorting hat. Dobby is free. Hagrid is cleared. Snape still hates Harry, Ron, Hermoine, Neville, etc. Moaning Myrtle is one of the castle’s ghosts, she was killed by the basilisk when Riddle was at Hogwarts and she still basically lives in the bathrooms. Harry, Ron and Hermoine know how to brew Polyjuice potion since they did to see if Malfoy was the heir. To brew it, Hermoine had to steal some ingredients from Snape’s storeroom. Peeves, at one point, does some damage to a vanishing cabinet.
